A key WrestleMania decision has been clarified following speculation surrounding Bron Breakker‘s injury status.
Bron Breakker has been fully cleared to compete after undergoing hernia surgery, but his absence from a planned WrestleMania match is not due to his health. According to Dave Meltzer, speaking on the Wrestling Observer Radio, the decision to instead book Seth Rollins against Gunther at WrestleMania 42 was a creative choice.
Breakker had been sidelined since suffering a hernia injury on the February 2 episode of WWE Raw, with early expectations pointing towards a WrestleMania clash with Rollins once both men were ready to return. However, those plans shifted on Monday’s Raw at Madison Square Garden.
During the show, Gunther made his return after a three-week absence, pulling Rollins out of the ring as he attempted to attack Paul Heyman. Gunther locked in a sleeper hold and choked Rollins out before pointing to the WrestleMania sign, a moment that led Adam Pearce to later confirm the match.
Bron Breakker’s Injury Didn’t Force WWE To Pivot To Gunther Vs. Seth Rollins
While many assumed Bron Breakker’s injury had forced the change, Dave Meltzer reported that was not the case.
“The idea of Rollins vs. Breakker is very much alive, but they are wanting the proper television build time,” Meltzer said. “The entire storyline the past few weeks with Rollins and Paul Heyman was always to build to Gunther choking Rollins out in Madison Square Garden.”
Before the change, Rey Mysterio had also been discussed as a potential opponent for Gunther, before an injury ruled him out and left an opening on the WrestleMania card.
