An update has been provided on the injury status of former AEW World Champion Samoa Joe.
Former AEW World Champion Samoa Joe is reportedly in concussion protocol, with no confirmed timetable for his return to the ring. According to Fightful Select, Joe is currently sidelined after suffering a non-contact injury. It was announced on last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite that he was not medically cleared to compete, and the latest report indicates the issue involves a concussion. No details have been provided regarding the severity of the injury or when he may be able to return.
Joe last competed on January 21, when he faced Mike Bailey. With him now out of action, Hook has stepped into a leadership role within The Opps, alongside Katsuyori Shibata.
What Was Samoa Joe Doing In AEW Prior To His Injury?
Before the injury, Samoa Joe had reportedly been factored into top-of-the-card storylines, particularly around the AEW World Championship picture. However, those plans have since changed, with Andrade El Idolo moving into a prominent position.
AEW officials were said to be pleased with El Idolo’s recent performances, including wins over Swerve Strickland on the January 28 episode of Dynamite and Kenny Omega on the February 4 show. El Idolo is now scheduled to face “Hangman” Adam Page at AEW Grand Slam: Australia, with the winner earning a world title opportunity against either MJF or Brody King.
