Following his absence from the WWE Royal Rumble, a new report has shed some light on the contract status of Chris Jericho.
In recent weeks, there has been growing belief that Chris Jericho would not only be returning to WWE but also be a surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia. However, when Gunther was revealed as the 30th man in the match, those rumours were put to rest.
While there has been a lot of discussion online about the reason behind Y2J’s no-show at the Rumble, a new report from Fightful Select has revealed that it was never a possibility, as Jericho is still under contract with AEW.
According to the report, WWE is interested in Jericho if he becomes available, but that hasn’t happened yet. Fightful noted that The Demo God signed an extension with AEW in 2022, which would take him through 2025; however, it is unknown if there have been any further extensions or freezes during that time.
Jim Ross Believes Chris Jericho Leaving AEW Would “Hurt The Brand”
Earlier in January, Jim Ross gave his thoughts on Chris Jericho’s current options. The WWE Hall of Famer and current AEW Commentator believes the choice in front of The Nueve is between WWE and AEW, with no other promotion being a factor for him.
If Chris Jericho does leave AEW behind, Ross thinks it would hurt the company as he’s “such a valuable member” of the roster. Ross says Jericho seems happy with his position and influence in AEW, but admitted that “money changes a lot of opinion.”
