An update has been provided on AJ Lee‘s contract status with WWE following her return to the company earlier this year.
AJ Lee returned to WWE after over ten years away on the September 5 episode of SmackDown, where she confronted Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins alongside her husband, CM Punk. This confrontation led to a tag match where Lee and Punk faced off against Lynch and Rollins in a winning effort at Wrestlepalooza on September 20.
After Wrestlepalooza, Lee was not seen again in WWE until the November 17 episode of Raw, where she distracted Lynch during her Women’s Intercontinental Title match against Maxxine Dupri, causing Lynch to lose the match and her title. This then led to Lee competing in the women’s WarGames match at Survivor Series on Saturday, where she once again forced Lynch to submit to win the match for her team.
Now, Sean Ross Sapp on Fightful’s WWE Raw Recap has spoken about Lee’s contract status with WWE, and said that she is not contracted as a full-time performer, and that was never the plan when she returned. Instead, fans can expect Lee to continue to appear sporadically and will likely be gone for a while following her WarGames win on Saturday.
When Did AJ Lee Retire From WWE?
AJ Lee retired from WWE on April 3, 2015, just four days after her match on the March 30 episode of Raw, where she teamed with Naomi and Paige to defeat Natalya, Brie and Nikki Bella.
Lee cited permanent damage to her cervical spine and that she had accomplished everything she set out to do in the wrestling business as her reasons for retirement. She began her career in WWE in 2009, and worked in developmental territories FCW and NXT until she joined the main roster in 2011.
