Two former AEW champions could become free agents within days, with no indication that they’ve agreed to new contracts.
Former AEW World Tag Team Champions Anthony Bowens and Max Caster are both reportedly set to see their contracts expire on October 1. According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, there has been no indication that AEW has negotiated with either wrestler. It is also unclear whether the company intends to offer Bowens or Caster new deals.
Fightful initially reported Caster’s contract expiry date in August before confirming on September 1 that Bowens’ deal was also due to expire on October 1. At the time, Bowens’ contract reportedly had not been extended, and Fightful had not learned whether negotiations over a new agreement had begun. The latest update indicates no known movement since then.
Anthony Bowens And Max Caster’s AEW Futures Remain Uncertain
Bowens and Caster signed with AEW in November 2020 and became one of the company’s most popular tag teams as The Acclaimed. The pair captured the AEW World Tag Team Championship from Swerve In Our Glory at Grand Slam in September 2022.
Bowens and Caster later joined forces with Billy Gunn, with the trio defeating House of Black for the World Trios Championship at All In London in August 2023. The Acclaimed were also named Most Improved in the 2022 Wrestling Observer Newsletter Awards.
Their partnership eventually broke down, leading to Bowens and Caster feuding. Their programme was subsequently voted Worst Feud of the Year in the 2025 Wrestling Observer Newsletter Awards.
The pair later reunited, although the reconciliation proved short-lived and they have since gone their separate ways again. With October 1 rapidly approaching, the AEW futures of Bowens and Caster remain uncertain, with neither wrestler nor the company publicly announcing a new agreement.
