Triple H has revealed he once injured a WWE Hall of Famer with a fake sledgehammer.
When he was an active wrestler in WWE’s main event scene, Triple H became infamous for using a sledgehammer to get the upper hand against his opponents. The likes of Mick Foley, The Rock, and The Undertaker all fell victim to one of the most brutal foreign objects ever used in a ring.
Despite the dangerous appearance of the weapon, though, The Game was adept at protecting his opponents, often by covering the head of the hammer with his hand as he went in for the attack. On occasion, he was also given prop hammers to use instead of a real one. Unfortunately, that proved to be a mistake during a match with The Undertaker.
“When I Came Up, He Was Bleeding” – Triple H Recounts Sledgehammer Incident With The Undertaker
Recalling the incident during an interview on Complex, Triple H revealed that during one of their WrestleMania clashes, he was given a sledgehammer with a foam head to use against The Phenom. While it should have been safer, the Cerebral Assassin said the handle went straight through the foam and cut Undertaker wide open.
“To be honest, I just used whatever hammer was available. I used it one time because I ended up smashing a coffin with it that Rock was in, and then it just became synonymous with me after that.
“Over the years used various ones. I did not like using, every now and then- they’d have a prop one or something. Ironically, the only time I ever injured anybody with the hammer was with Taker and we were going to- I believe it was WrestleMania. He was going to put me up for The Last Ride and I was going to grab the hammer on the way up. But we were so afraid that, could I get all the way up there and still use it? So we used a gimmicked sledgehammer that had like a foam head because it was much lighter.
“When I went up top and hit him in the head with it, I held on to the foam part to protect him, and the handle went all the way through the foam part and cut him from like here to here. I hit him. I had no idea. He went down. When I came up, he was bleeding. I was like, holy sh*t, what happened? He was just covered.”
Triple H wrestled The Undertaker three times at WrestleMania, but The Phenom kept his streak alive in all of their encounters on the Grandest Stage Of Them All.
