WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H has praised Kevin Owens‘ emotional return to the ring at SummerSlam, describing it as a career-defining moment after the former Universal Champion battled back from a potentially career-ending injury.
Kevin Owens made his surprise return during SummerSlam Night Two, winning the opening Fatal 4-Way Match against Sami Zayn, Gunther and Finn Balor to become the new number one contender for CM Punk’s Undisputed WWE Championship.
Speaking at the SummerSlam Night Two post-show, Triple H highlighted Owens as one of the weekend’s standout performers and reflected on the significance of his comeback.
“Kevin Owens, for me, when you come back from something that they tell you, ‘It’s possible that you might never wrestle again.’ I’ve been there.”
Triple H praised Owens for returning at full intensity despite spending more than a year on the sidelines.
“To be able to come back in that moment and have the night that he had tonight… The world shows you the love that you deserve and then you’re able to deliver on it. It wasn’t like he was out there holding back; it wasn’t like he was out there trying to take it easy. That was Kevin Owens in all his glory, and he delivered on it.”
The WWE executive believes Owens’ victory has immediately positioned him as one of the company’s top stars heading into the coming months.
“Which now puts him in the driver’s seat.”

Triple H also looked ahead to Kevin Owens’ upcoming Undisputed WWE Championship match against CM Punk, teasing that the pair’s history could make for a compelling rivalry.
“After last night, immediately makes me think about Kevin Owens and CM Punk. There is a lot of history there. A lot that people have seen, and believe me, a lot of history that is behind the scenes. That is going to be an epic encounter that I can’t wait to see.”
