Paul “Triple H” Levesque is reportedly facing internal criticism within WWE over repeated changes to the WrestleMania 42 card.
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, some within the company are frustrated by frequent shifts in creative direction, with concerns that the instability may be affecting ticket sales.
Meltzer reported that advance ticket sales for WrestleMania 42 are down roughly 18 per cent compared to last year, though the expectation remains that the event will eventually sell out.
“Essentially, what the way it was described to me is… they’re very disappointed with the advance. It’s down about 18% from last year,” Meltzer said.
He added that some of the criticism stems from the perception that Triple H is making late changes to plans, drawing comparisons to the booking style of Vince McMahon.
“So there’s been a lot of internal criticism of Paul Levesque [Triple H], as far as, like, not keeping… they keep changing the plans, essentially, like Vince… they have a plan, and then they change the plan,” Meltzer said.
Meltzer also pointed to external factors impacting ticket sales, including higher prices and a reported decline in tourism to Las Vegas.
“The problems are number one, ticket prices are really high, higher than last year. Number two, a lot of foreigners won’t come to the United States right now… tourism in Vegas is down,” he said.
Despite the concerns, the WrestleMania 42 card is beginning to take shape, with Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk expected to headline, and Drew McIntyre vs. Cody Rhodes likely for the WWE Championship.
