A former WWE on-screen personality has accused Paul “Triple H” Levesque of being jealous of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
Former WWE broadcaster Jonathan Coachman has claimed that jealousy may be at the heart of the relationship between Triple H and The Rock. The longtime wrestling personality recently discussed the two WWE icons on the 2 Count Tuesday podcast, arguing that, despite their public displays of respect, there is an underlying tension between them.
For years, Levesque and Johnson have spoken positively about one another and were recently portrayed as having a professional working relationship in WWE’s Netflix series WWE: Unreal. Coachman, however, said he is not convinced that tells the full story.
“Triple H wants to be what The Rock is,” Coachman said.
According to Coachman, the issue extends beyond professional wrestling and stems from The Game’s past ambitions in Hollywood. Coachman claimed that during his time in WWE, Triple H openly discussed his desire to become a major movie star, similar to The Rock’s eventual success in the entertainment industry.
“I was there. I was in the room with 10 people,” Coachman said. “Triple H wanted to be a movie star. He did not make any bones about it.”
Coachman pointed to Levesque’s appearance in Blade: Trinity as an example of those aspirations, suggesting the WWE Chief Content Officer hoped to expand his career beyond wrestling. He further argued that seeing wrestling stars successfully transition into Hollywood may contribute to those feelings.
“As much as he wants to run the WWE, Rock, John Cena, now Roman, Cody, MJF, they’re all movie stars,” Coachman said. “There is a gigantic jealousy component to this whole thing.”
Jonathan Coachman Praised Triple H’s Wrestling Career Despite Previous Criticisms
Despite the criticism, Jonathan Coachman was careful to praise Triple H’s accomplishments in professional wrestling, acknowledging his impact as both a performer and an executive.
“I’ll give Triple H his flowers in wrestling,” Coachman said.
While Coachman’s comments are certain to generate discussion among wrestling fans, there has been no public indication from either Paul Levesque or Dwayne Johnson that any issues currently exist between the two WWE legends.
