A recently departed WWE star is expected to sign with AEW.
According to a new report from Sean Ross Sapp on Fightful Select, Ilja Dragunov is set to join AEW. The star left WWE in August following the expiration of his contract, after seven years with the promotion.
According to Fightful, Dragunov’s move to AEW has been expected for some time, but has been held up by immigration issues. The former United States Champion is not alone, as multiple wrestlers from outside the US have been hit by visa expirations and other hurdles since leaving WWE.
It was noted that it is unconfirmed whether Dragunov has officially signed with the promotion, but it is in progress, with only some final details needing to be nailed down.
Ilja is coming to AEW, myself and @FightfulSelect have learned.

AEW Star Wants Rematch With Ilja Dragunov
While his arrival in AEW is not yet official, Kyle Fletcher is excited at the prospect of a rematch with the Ilja Dragunov. The pair last met in the ring as Dragunov was winding down his independent career in 2019, and the Mad Dragon got the win over Fletcher.
While discussing the potential for another bout, the Protostar admitted it excited him “very much,” as Dragunov is someone who shares his passion for pro wrestling, and he believed they can create magic in the ring.
