According to Tony Khan there is a lot to look forward to when it comes to the WrestleDream card this weekend.
“I think first of all I’m really looking forward to the pay per view and it’s going to be an excellent wrestling show. I think Clockwork Carnage and all the wrestlers involved, it’s such an exciting concept and there will be a really tremendous World Championship match as well,” he told Slam Wrestling in a conference call today.
Khan is pumped about one match in particular, a rematch.
“I am really excited for the Trios Championship, Two-Out-Of-Three Falls match to have Brody King, Bandito and ‘Hangman’ Adam Page in a rematch versus Swerve Strickland and The New Level. The match at AEW All Out was incredible and I can’t wait to see them in a rematch. There’s so much to look forward to on the show. I’m really excited about FTR and the Motor City Machine Gun locking up to kick things off on TNT and on part of the Tailgate Brawl so there’s a lot to look forward to,” he said.
When asked about Adam Copeland’s retirement announcement on AEW Dynamite this week, Khan said he knew about and supported Copeland’s decision. Copeland’s personal list of places he would like to wrestle at before he retires includes the Tokyo Dome. Khan was quizzed about whether or not Copeland could be part of Wrestle Kingdom in January.
“I’ll leave that to talk. You know, I think that’s that’s a very fair question for you to ask but I would say that I keep that between myself and Gedo and Adam but I am very cognizant of what you’re what you’re asking and it’s a very fair question to ask but I I would say you know stay tuned on that…I think I’ve really been trying to be a very good partner to New Japan Pro Wrestling. I think we have a really great working relationship and you’re seeing a lot of the top AEW stars going over with me and them trying to be very collaborative. You’ll see we’ll be putting on some excellent AEW events even as some of our great stars are also working at New Japan and it speaks to the depth of the AEW roster that I think we’ll be able to have great events and still be great partners for some of the biggest New Japan shows of the year where you’ll be seeing a lot of the greatest wrestlers in AEW involved in those shows. As to the specifics with Adam, you know, I’ll leave some mystery to that,” said Khan.
