AEW President Tony Khan has praised Ilja Dragunov and confirmed that he will be keeping an eye on the former WWE star’s future.
Ilja Dragunov recently became available after leaving WWE, prompting speculation about where the former United States Champion could wrestle next. Tony Khan initially addressed Dragunov during the Death Before Dishonor media scrum, where he described him as a great wrestler.
Speaking more recently with TalkSPORT, the AEW President reiterated his admiration for Dragunov while stressing that he could not comment on the contractual situation of wrestlers outside his company.
“Well, I can’t speak about the contractual status of wrestlers outside of the promotion because I don’t know everyone’s contract,” Khan said. “There’s no way for me to keep track of all that, but I do know that that’s a great wrestler.”
While Khan stopped short of confirming whether AEW would attempt to sign Dragunov, he made clear that he has a high opinion of the former WWE star.
Tony Khan Will Be Watching Ilja Dragunov’s Next Move
Tony Khan described Ilja Dragunov as an accomplished athlete who has already proven himself at a high level and said he intends to follow what happens next in his career.
“That’s somebody that is a very excellent athlete and somebody that has competed at a very high level and somebody who I respect imminently,” Khan said. “I am a big admirer of his, and I will always be on the lookout to see what happens with him.”
Khan’s comments are likely to fuel speculation about a potential move to AEW, although he did not indicate that negotiations between the two sides are taking place. For now, the AEW President has limited his comments to praising Dragunov’s ability and confirming his interest in seeing where the former WWE United States Champion goes next.
