AEW President Tony Khan has commented on Ronda Rousey‘s surprise appearance at AEW Revolution.
Ronda Rousey made an unexpected appearance during Sunday’s pay-per-view after Toni Storm defeated Marina Shafir in singles competition. Following the match, Rousey entered the ring and called Storm back for a confrontation, but security and officials quickly stepped in to keep the two apart. During the chaos, Shafir attacked Storm from behind before leaving the ring alongside Rousey.
Speaking at the post-show media scrum, Tony Khan explained that Rousey’s involvement came about due to her real-life friendship with Shafir.
“Well, Ronda is a really good friend of Marina Shafir, and Marina brought her in as backup,” Khan said. “Everyone was banned from ringside, so that match was a great wrestling match. I thought Toni and Marina Shafir was a great wrestling match. They’re going to have a no-holds-barred fight on Wednesday night, and I’m looking forward to that.”
Khan also noted that Rousey had previously worked with him. After leaving WWE in 2023, Rousey appeared on the Ring of Honor brand in a tag team match alongside Shafir, which also took place in Los Angeles.
“When Marina said Ronda was going to be her backup, it was like, ‘OK, everyone is banned from ringside,’” Khan said. “But once the match was over, Ronda did get involved, she made her presence known, and then Marina really took advantage of the situation and landed a sucker punch on Toni Storm while everyone was mesmerised by Ronda.”
Tony Khan Will Welcome Ronda Rousey Back To AEW Whenever She Wants
Tony Khan added that AEW has a positive relationship with Ronda Rousey and that she is welcome back whenever she wishes.
The AEW president also referenced Rousey’s upcoming return to mixed martial arts, where she is scheduled to face Gina Carano on a Netflix-streamed event later this year. Khan said Rousey has invited him to attend the fight and noted that AEW talent would also be welcome at the event.
Rousey’s appearance generated significant attention during Revolution, although the reaction from fans online was mixed following the segment.
