Tommy Dreamer has found himself at the centre of an online controversy after a wrestling student and referee shared details of a backstage interaction they claim took place during a TNA event.
Professional wrestling student and referee Perch posted a series of messages on social media recalling an encounter with the former TNA Head of Creative, alleging that Dreamer discouraged him from pursuing a career in the industry.
According to Perch, Tommy Dreamer pulled him aside backstage and delivered a message that left a lasting impression.
“Tommy Dreamer pulled me aside backstage at a TNA show, telling me he would do everything he could to make sure I don’t earn a job in the wrestling business,” Perch wrote. “All I did was try to learn and grow from experiences, though his words were very discouraging for a young student to hear.”
Despite the alleged comments, Perch said he chose to continue pursuing opportunities elsewhere rather than dwelling on the experience.
“I didn’t set out to prove him wrong, I simply thanked him for their advice and went another direction,” he wrote. “The pro wrestling business is for everybody, you just have to find where you fit in best.”
Perch also encouraged aspiring wrestlers to accept constructive criticism while remaining committed to their own goals and ambitions within the industry.
Mickie James Jumps To The Defence Of Tommy Dreamer Following Accusations
The posts quickly gained attention online and eventually drew a response from WWE Women’s and TNA Knockouts Champion Mickie James, a longtime friend and colleague of Tommy Dreamer.
While acknowledging that she was personally unfamiliar with Perch, James questioned whether the full story had been told and defended Dreamer’s reputation in professional wrestling.
“Perch, listen, I don’t know you. But I do know Tommy Dreamer well enough to know that ‘if’ he truly said this. There is far more to this story that you are conveniently leaving out,” James wrote.
James went on to describe Dreamer as someone who has helped numerous people throughout his career and suggested there may be additional context surrounding the alleged incident.
“If you are going to come on here and attempt to bury someone, especially someone who is as loved, respected, and responsible for helping soooooo many folks, including myself, in this industry, then at least be completely honest,” she added.
After another user pointed out that Perch’s comments had been posted as part of a longer thread, James responded with a brief follow-up message, writing:
“lol. True.”
Dreamer has not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of writing.
