AEW is giving Tommaso Ciampa a creative outlet he hasn’t had for a long time.
After a decade with WWE, Tommaso Ciampa joined AEW in January 2026, and captured the TNT Championship from Mark Briscoe in his debut match for the promotion. Since then, Ciampa has shown a more vicious side to himself than seen in WWE, and he has promised fans that there are big plans for the ‘Psycho Killer.’
Speaking to Justin Barrasso for Undisputed, Ciampa explained that he had begun “tinkering” with the gimmick before becoming part of NXT, and now that he is in AEW, he’s been able to revisit the character.
“The Psycho Killer character is coming into a life of its own. There was a lot of stuff left on the table I didn’t fully get to play with and experiment with prior to NXT, so it’s been fun creatively to flesh out a lot of those ideas.”
The star is hopeful that some of his plans will come to fruition on AEW’s biggest stage at All In London, but says it’s a matter of getting the timing right.
“There are some big plans we’re working on behind the scenes with The Psycho Killer. Pro wrestling has a lot to do with timing, and we’re hoping the timing will work out just in time for Wembley.”
For Ciampa, joining AEW has given him a chance to push the envelope creatively, and he says he has multiple projects in the works.
“There are a lot of fun projects in the works, and the last four, five, six months have been so exciting. I love collaborating, and we’ve got a great team of minds here to help push the envelope.
“When that’s taken away from the performer, that locks them up. Creatively for me, it’s giving me an outlet I haven’t had for a long time.”
Tommaso Ciampa Wants To End His Career In AEW
Tommaso Ciampa has been all in on his AEW run since his first appearance and, shortly after his debut, said that he plans to finish his career in the promotion. However, the end is still a long way off for the Psycho Killer, as he explained that he wants to wrestle in the promotion for at least the next 10 years before he decides to hang up his boots.
