“I think that was kind of really the first time that I had this real-life evidence that I was the wrestler or the person that I felt like I always was meant to be,” Fletcher told Sports Illustrated about his match against Will Ospreay at Full Gear last year.
Before his solo run in AEW Fletcher was part of the highly successful tag team Aussie Open with Mark Davis. In NJPW, they joined the United Empire faction under the leadership of Will Ospreay.
To Fletcher though, nothing has meant as much to him as that Full Gear match.
“I’ve always kind of had this feeling that, oh, I’m meant to be a great wrestler. I’m meant to have success in this business. But you never really know what that looks like. I think that match and that night was kind of the first time I looked around, and the reaction and everything that happened, and I was just like, oh man, this is real, and this is happening,” he said.
Fletcher will put his AEW TNT Championship on the line at Full Gear tonight against Mark Briscoe in a no disqualification match. If Briscoe loses, he will have to become a part of The Don Callis Family.
