Thunder Rosa has opened up about the origins of her trademark face paint and named several wrestling legends she considers among the best to ever use the style.
Speaking with Under the Mat, Thunder Rosa explained that she originally began painting her face after a promoter suggested it could help her stand out as Día de los Muertos imagery became increasingly popular with fans.
According to Rosa, she initially used the look only for that specific promotion, then brought it back during a tour of Japan.
“When I went to Japan, I started painting my face again because I wasn’t getting over there,” Rosa explained.
Rosa revealed she has consistently used face paint as part of her presentation since 2015, helping establish one of the more recognisable looks in AEW. During the interview, Simon Miller also asked Rosa to name some of her favourite wrestlers known for face paint.

Thunder Rosa immediately named Darby Allin and Sting before jokingly attempting to include herself on the list. After Miller suggested the Legion of Doom, Rosa specifically singled out Animal as her preferred member stylistically.
She also praised Jeff Hardy for his creativity and constantly evolving designs.
“He’s very artistic, and I love the fact that he always paints his face very differently based on what he sees,” Rosa said.
