Din Thomas won’t be cornering any more in UFC.
The UFC commentator worked the booth and the corner of Gillian Robertson at last night’s UFC 330.
Not only did Robertson have one of her very worst fights ever in the octagon but Thomas announced later that evening that he was quitting as a cornerman.
“I do have an announcement for you guys. I told myself I would continue to do this until I took Gillian as far as she could go; I think that might be as far as she can go and I am officially retiring from cornering fighters tonight. I’m doing the Matt Serra: I’m no longer cornering fighters,” he said. “It’s just, I told myself that I would do this with her. I would see her journey out and take her as far as I think she can go and this might be as far as she can go,” Thomas said.
Robertson was ineffective against strawweight champion Mackenzie Dern only winning one round. Although she did expertly block Dern’s attempts at submissions, her offence was soft and limited.
During the fight instead of being a positive, supportive presence, Thomas appeared to be irritated and annoyed.
At one point he said bluntly: “Wake the f–k up!”.
Fans expressed their opinions about Thomas’ decision:
This is absolutely embarrassing and actually kinda disgusting. Dude gets on live television and shits all over his fighter after she just lost her first chance at the world title. She definitely needs to find a new head coach

Way to make it about yourself.
He couldn’t wait a couple days. Nah the moment has to be his.
Disgraceful.

Saying that about a fighter “got as far as he she could” who trusted you to be in her corner for the biggest fight of her life is scummy. Especially dumb to say when she got to a title shot something he never did

If you’re going to do this, you did not have to do it live & embarrass your fighter. Unprofessional & as much shame as you know she’s feeling after her performance in a title fight that could have changed her life forever, he should feel 10X’s as much for this.
