Bret Hart is claiming that Vince McMahon and Shawn Michaels were in a romantic relationship back in nineties.
Hart suspected as much when Shawn Michaels surrendered the WWF World Championship claiming he had “lost his smile” and was suffering from a knee injury.
“I remember watching Vince (McMahon) and there was a tear going down his cheek. I remember thinking there must be more going on between these two guys,” said Hart on the Johnny Pro Show.
While many in the audience snickered, Hart state he was being dead serious.
“Honestly, I am just being honest and blunt but I suspected and now I really have serious…I think Shawn (Michaels) and Vince were sleeping with each other. I am just telling you, I am very close to the truth here. Shawn and Vince were lovers…I am being dead honest. When I look back, I got caught between two lovers. I got shafted and screwed over and Shawn was so envious and jealous of my position that he finally had to sleep with Vince to get it. I say all this with absolute…I would say it to Shawn if he was right here. I would actually like to have Shawn come clean and say: “We were lovers.”…because I am sure they were. If I saw Vince or Shawn here I would say: “I think you guys were lovers,” he said.
This isn’t the first time in recent memory that speculation has been made about the relationship between Shawn Michaels and Vince McMahon.
On the FLAGRANT podcast back in June of 2024, MMA fighter Chael Sonnen said that Vince McMahon offered pushes to WWE superstars, both male and female, in exchange for sex. Sonnen named Shawn Michaels in his claims.
“When Vince got #metoo-ed out of the business I think it was a surprise but as good as he is I wouldn’t completely count that he couldn’t come back. When the men start coming out it will be a different story,” warned Sonnen.
Sonnen went on to explain what was happening on the panel.
“He would hold their careers over them just like he would the women. It was the same thing. You get paid more, you get pushed more. This is not a secret in the industry. I’m not talking trash. Not at all am I talking trash. This was very well known. Shawn Michaels, guys that you would know, there were things happening…,” he stated.
“He was banging Shawn Michaels?” asked a host laughing.
“…or whatever, they had their relationship. You wonder if I am doing a bit. I am not,” said Sonnen.
Sonnen also mentioned Scott Hall’s name but never explained why or in what context he was naming him.
“There is a lot of homosexuals that Vince came across but there was also straight guys that just wanted a push in the business. It turned into prostitution. That was very well known. It wasn’t just Vince. There was Pat Patterson and some other executives,” Sonnen claimed.
Back in February of 2024 Paul Roma also maintained that McMahon targeted men who worked for the company.
“They were asked to do things. Sexual things with other men that they did not want to do. My former partner being one of them,” Roma said. “My former partner, one of my former partners, when I was part of the Young Stallions, he was propositioned. He said he went to one of the agents and told him what had happened. I said, ‘Why would you do that? You just ratted on both of us.’ He kind of threw us both under the bus, just starting out.”
Roma also spoke about why women are coming forward but not men.
“I am surprised that no one has come forward but on the flip side they’re of an age now that they’re maybe married, have kids and they don’t want to open Pandora’s Box. I can’t blame them,” Roma said.
Hart also revealed that he wasn’t a fan of either Jake “The Snake” Roberts or Hulk Hogan.
“Unlike guys like Hulk Hogan and Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts who didn’t pass the torch to anyone. All they did is take and take, never help anybody. Two of the biggest pieces of s–t in wrestling,” he said.
During the interview, Hart also commented on what he thought of John Cena as a talent.
“I would have worked with John Cena and we would have done amazing stuff. I have always been really impressed by John Cena. I will just say this, when I was back in 2010 when I wrestled Vince (McMahon) and all that stuff I found John Cena to be really comparable or similar to me in the sense that he was serious professional. He was a detail guy who went over every little detail in a match. I remember watching him go over matches with different wrestlers, even just being around him and I remember saying: “That’s what I used to do.’…I found John Cena to just be a professional. I would have loved to have worked with him,” he said.
He was also asked by the audience which of today’s wrestlers he would love to work with, if he could. Someone mentioned MJF.
“MJF? Who is that?…I am just curious. Who is that?…An AEW wrestler? As you can tell, I don’t watch it much any more,” he laughed.
