A WWE Hall of Famer has spoken about Drew McIntyre‘s role in WWE and how they believe he needs to become the “top guy” in 2026.
Mark Henry says Drew McIntyre needs to step into the role of WWE’s top star in 2026 rather than relying solely on entertainment value. Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Henry discussed McIntyre’s current rivalry with Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and argued that the former world champion should be presented as “the guy” at the centre of the company. Henry believes McIntyre needs a run that reminds fans of his ability while placing the title scene back at the forefront of WWE programming.
“Drew needs a moment of being ‘the guy’, so he can remind everybody how good he is,” Henry said. “Build up heat, and you want to see that title being taken off him… have entertainment throughout the show, but the meat of the company should be based around the title.”
Henry added that the focus on championships should be held “with a high regard” in WWE’s week-to-week storytelling.
How Long Has Drew McIntyre Been With WWE?
Drew McIntyre has been with WWE in his second run with the company since 2017, after re-debuting on the April 12 episode of NXT. Since then, McIntyre has risen through the ranks within the company to become one of the company’s top stars, capturing the World Heavyweight Championship once and the WWE Title on three occasions, with his third run having begun on last Friday’s episode of SmackDown.
McIntyre’s first run with WWE began in 2007, when he debuted on the October 12 episode of SmackDown, accompanied by Dave Taylor, where he defeated Brett Major before being moved to the developmental territories OVW and FCW until he returned to the main roster in 2009. McIntyre was then released by WWE in 2014.
