The late Hulk Hogan once called a certain fellow WWE Hall of Famer “the greatest superstar this business has ever known.”
Hulk Hogan once named who he believes is the “biggest and greatest Superstar” in wrestling history, naming Andre the Giant as the industry’s definitive trailblazer. Speaking in a 2014 interview on WWE Network, Hogan credited Andre with laying the foundation for every major star who followed, including himself, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and The Rock. Hogan said Andre’s presence, charisma and aura were unmatched and set the standard for what a true attraction in wrestling should be.
“Andre was a superstar. He was the biggest and greatest superstar this business has ever known and ever will know,” Hogan said. “He laid the groundwork for Hulk Hogan, for Stone Cold Steve Austin, for The Rock, for anybody else who walks through the doors of the WWE Universe. It would not have happened if it was not for Andre the Giant.”
Hogan also recalled watching Andre as a fan, describing how easily he dwarfed the ring itself.
“He would put his hand on the top rope and lean over, and I was just looking at his hip and his leg hanging off the ring like a Clydesdale.”
Andre’s legacy, Hogan added, remains central to the evolution of modern wrestling.
