A former WWE star has recalled a backstage moment with The Undertaker that quickly changed part of his WWE presentation.
Speaking during an appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Jimmy Wang Yang revealed that The Undertaker confronted him over wearing Confederate Flag imagery on his ring gear during his run with the company. According to Yang, the WWE Hall of Famer immediately told him to remove the gear after seeing it backstage.
“He saw me wearing it and said, ‘Jimmy, take that f**king s**t off,’” Yang recalled. “I’m like, ‘What?’ He said, ‘That s**t means some horrible s**t. Take it off.’”
Yang said he immediately listened to Undertaker’s instructions and removed the jacket before others backstage questioned where his gear had gone.
“I said, ‘Undertaker told me to take it off,’” Yang explained. “And they were like, ‘Okay!’”
Jimmy Wang Yang’s Wrestling Career Before WWE
Before becoming known in WWE for his cowboy-inspired Jimmy Wang Yang character, Yang originally broke into the wrestling business through WCW. He signed with the company straight out of high school at 18 and later went on to wrestle for promotions including TNA Wrestling, Ring of Honor, and All Japan Pro Wrestling.
Although he admitted he would still be open to wrestling occasionally if needed, Yang said he now prefers working behind the scenes rather than returning as a full-time performer. He previously worked as a WWE producer in 2021.
Yang also used the interview to promote his new memoir covering his two-decade wrestling career.
