The Undertaker has revealed the identity of the “worst roommate” he ever had on the road, WWE Hall of Famer The Iron Sheik.
Speaking on his Six Feet Under podcast in 2023, The Undertaker said the experience came early in his career, long before he became one of WWE’s most recognisable figures. Undertaker recalled how he woke up in the early hours of the morning, freezing cold, and noticed that the hotel balcony door was open and that Sheik was outside exercising.
“So he lays down and falls asleep. It’s like, a couple hours later. I woke up freezing and I looked the other way there was a sliding glass door that had a little balcony. It’s 4:30 in the morning and Sheik is out there doing Hindu squats, he’s got nothing but his wrestling tights on.”
Undertaker went on to describe how Sheik then turned on the shower to full blast, further disturbing him while he tried to sleep.
“So, the next thing I heard was the shower on. Full steam. I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh.’ So now he’s in there taking a shower. And I mean, it’s the longest shower I’ve ever heard any human take. So, the shower goes on and on and on and finally, I hear the water turn off. I’m like ‘Oh, thank gosh, look, you know, got like an hour, hour and 15 minutes. Okay, go to sleep.’”
Undertaker then said that Sheik turned on a blow dryer, but quickly remembered that Sheik was bald, so what exactly was he drying?
“Then the next thing I hear the blow dryer starts. Now, I’ve been awake for a while now. So, I have my faculties about me. And I’m trying to think like, what on earth? Is he blow-drying? He has no hair, he’s bald. he shaves his body. I get up, the door isn’t completely open but it’s open enough that all the sound is coming out. So, I started to push the door open. And he’s blow-drying his moustache.”
Despite the misery of the experience, Undertaker made clear that his comments come from a place of affection, describing Sheik as a character unlike anyone else in wrestling, but absolutely not someone he wanted to share a room with again.
When Did The Undertaker Debut In WWE?
The Undertaker made his WWE debut on 22 November 1990 at the Survivor Series pay-per-view, where he was introduced as the surprise mystery partner for Ted DiBiase’s Million Dollar Team. His arrival, complete with the slow walk, funereal music and imposing presentation, instantly set him apart from the rest of the roster.
Within months, he became one of WWE’s most protected characters, beginning a decades-long run that would see him evolve from the original “Deadman” into multiple iterations, all while remaining a central figure in the company.
