AJ Styles’ storied in-ring career officially came to an end on the February 23 episode of WWE Raw, as the Georgia native returned home to formally announce his retirement from professional wrestling. What began as a heartfelt celebration concluded with a major WWE Hall of Fame revelation that added another milestone to his legacy.
The segment opened with a career retrospective video set to Creed’s “Higher,” highlighting AJ Styles’ journey from the independent scene to global stardom. When he made his Atlanta debut, the ovation reflected both his connection to the state and the impact of his decades-long career.
Styles spoke about growing up in Gainesville, Georgia, and the significance of retiring so close to home. He reflected on key chapters of his career, including his time in TNA Wrestling, appearances at the Tokyo Dome, and his run in WWE. He acknowledged the influence of peers such as Christopher Daniels, Samoa Joe, and Frankie Kazarian, and referenced his stint in Japan alongside Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson.
While noting the championships and accolades he accumulated across the world, Styles focused heavily on the personal sacrifices required to sustain a career at the highest level. He discussed the time missed with his family and credited his wife, Wendy, for supporting him throughout his journey. His family was in attendance for the emotional farewell.
AJ Styles Confirms Retirement
As a symbolic gesture, AJ Styles removed his vest and gloves and left them in the ring, signalling the definitive end of his in-ring career. The live crowd responded with a standing ovation, and members of the WWE roster gathered on the entrance stage in tribute.
The moment took an unexpected turn when the arena lights went out, and The Undertaker’s gong sounded. The Undertaker rode to the ring on his motorcycle and initially referenced unfinished business, creating tension inside the building. Instead of setting up a future confrontation, he announced that AJ Styles will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2026.
Styles embraced The Undertaker before being joined in the ring by his family. On the stage, names including Abyss, Frankie Kazarian, Petey Williams, and Bobby Roode stood alongside much of the WWE roster as the celebration continued.
The evening closed with Styles soaking in the moment in front of a hometown crowd, ending a career that spanned continents, promotions, and generations with a Hall of Fame honour.
