Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will not be heading to the Dolby Theatre on Oscar night.
Nominees for the Academy Awards were announced on Thursday, January 22, and despite months of early awards-season buzz, The Rock failed to secure a Best Actor nomination for his dramatic turn as Mark Kerr in The Smashing Machine.
Johnson had been viewed as a potential breakthrough contender when the film debuted, with many predicting the role would finally earn him Academy recognition. Instead, his name was absent when the Best Actor category was unveiled.
The nominees were Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme), Michael B. Jordan (Sinners), Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle After Another), Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon), and Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent).
Johnson’s omission capped off a disappointing awards campaign. While he did receive Best Actor nominations at the Golden Globe Awards and the Astra Film Awards, he failed to convert either nod into a win.
For now, the former WWE champion remains one of Hollywood’s biggest box-office attractions, but an Academy Award will have to wait.
How Many Movies Has The Rock Starred In?
The Rock has built one of the most prolific filmographies of any former professional wrestler turned Hollywood star. Since his early 2000s breakout, Johnson has appeared in more than 50 feature films, spanning action blockbusters, comedies, animated features, and dramatic roles.
His résumé includes major franchises, original studio tentpoles, and voice work, making him one of the most bankable actors of the modern era. While box-office success has rarely eluded him, critical recognition at the highest awards level has proven far more difficult to secure.
