Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has received one of the biggest acting honours of his career after being nominated for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama at the Golden Globes.
The nomination comes despite The Smashing Machine underperforming at the box office, earning only $19 million on a $50 million budget. In the film, The Rock portrays real-life MMA fighter Mark Kerr.
The role marked a major shift from Johnson’s usual blockbuster work. Although the film struggled financially, his performance drew strong critical praise at festival screenings and ultimately caught the attention of awards voters.
Johnson now finds himself nominated alongside Joel Edgerton, Oscar Isaac, Michael B Jordan, Wagner Moura and Jeremy Allen White. Emily Blunt also received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the same film.

The Rock last appeared on WWE programming at the 2025 Elimination Chamber, where John Cena sided with him to turn heel on Cody Rhodes and Cena and rapper Travis Scott attacked Rhodes to close the show.
His last appearance before the Chamber was on the February 21 episode of SmackDown, where he announced that WrestleMania 42 would take place in New Orleans, Louisiana; however, the location for Mania 42 was later changed to Las Vegas, Nevada.
