The Rock has revealed that he recently faced a health scare after discovering a painful lump on one of his testicles.
Speaking with Esquire (quotes courtesy of f4wonline.com), the WWE legend and Hollywood star explained that he sought medical attention after noticing the issue while showering.
According to The Rock, doctors informed him that the condition was likely epididymitis, an inflammation affecting a tube located behind the testicle. However, he was also told that cancer could not immediately be ruled out, prompting him to undergo an ultrasound the following morning.
“I didn’t even tell Lauren,” The Rock said, referring to his wife, Lauren Hashian. “I didn’t want to worry her before I knew if it was anything to even worry about.”
The uncertainty left him dealing with significant anxiety while continuing with his professional commitments.
“By the way, I’m fine. But I didn’t know that then, and the thing was really painful,” he said. “So I had to live with that for those twenty-four hours, not knowing, and I had to be on all day, joking around, making speeches.”
The Rock Confirmed He Did Not Have Cancer
Fortunately, The Rock confirmed that the issue was not cancer and that he is now doing well. Elsewhere in the interview, The Rock reflected on missing out on an Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of former UFC fighter Mark Kerr in The Smashing Machine.
While he admitted an Oscar nomination would have meant a great deal to him, he said the disappointment has only motivated him to continue pushing forward in his acting career.
“It would have been incredible to get nominated for an Oscar,” The Rock said. “I wish it happened. But it didn’t. But in no uncertain terms did I ever think, ‘Oh, that doesn’t matter.’ I always thought it mattered.”
Rather than dwelling on the setback, The Rock explained that it has fuelled his determination to continue striving for greater success.
“It has lit a fire in my spine, which is: Let’s get back to work.”
