AJ Styles wants to leave the business on his terms.
In a conversation with Undisputed, AJ Styles spoke about his decision to hang up his boots next year.
“I’ve had a tremendous time in professional wrestling. Not many people can say they love their job. I do. It’s going to suck when it’s over, but that’s always been my ultimate goal, to retire on my own terms,” he said.
After being the face that runs the place in TNA, Styles ventured to NJPW, where he became the leader of The Bullet Club. That leap of faith landed him in WWE years later.
“When I went to WWE, Vince wanted me to be who I was in Japan. That style from Japan did not change when I went to WWE. That’s the guy Vince wanted so I didn’t have to change anything. Maybe that’s why it got over so well,” he said.
While touring Australia and Japan recently with WWE, Styles has said his farewells.
“I just want to thank you guys for cheering and being some of the best fans in the world, but here’s the truth: I’m probably not going to see you again in a singlet like this anymore. So I just wanted to let you know from the bottom of my heart, thank you very much,” he told the crowd there.
AJ Styles has expressed interest in becoming a coach or a trainer when he steps away from the ring.
