The Miz has revealed he went into WrestleMania 42 expecting a physical confrontation with John Cena.
Speaking on the Complex Graps Wrestling Podcast, The Miz said he believed the segment at Allegiant Stadium would lead to a fight, given their history dating back to their WWE Championship clash at WrestleMania 27.
“When I was out there, I was expecting to have to fight John Cena,” he said.
Instead, Cena shifted the moment, encouraging Miz to take the spotlight rather than engage in a confrontation.
“John Cena was like, ‘No, have your moment, here’s a microphone. Do what you do best,’” Miz explained.
Miz said he quickly adapted, preparing to deliver a promo that would have included a major reveal tied to the American Gladiators reboot.
“I’m about to give everyone never-before-seen footage… this new American Gladiators… huge, right?” he said.
Danhausen Interrupted The Miz’s WrestleMania 42 Segment
However, the segment did not unfold as planned, with Danhausen interrupting and sending the moment in a different direction. Reflecting on the situation, The Miz admitted it was not how he had envisioned his WrestleMania moment, particularly given the scale of the stage.
“That’s not the way you want to have a WrestleMania moment… that’s not what I imagined,” he said.
