What was supposed to be a friendly encounter with a WWE fan backstage became a violent encounter for WWE Champion Drew McIntyre.
Speaking to TMZ Sports, McIntyre described how what was supposed to be a fun time for everyone turned horribly wrong.
The WWE asked McIntyre to have a meet and greet with a contest winner. McIntyre thought it was better if Cody Rhodes did the honors but the WWE insisted it be him.
“And the guy came back and lunged at me and did say, ‘That’s Cody’s title!’ He swung at me, and security had to get between us. I calmed him down. We got a picture together, so he’ll get a picture with the title,” said McIntyre.
That wasn’t the end of things though. As soon as they took the photo he started going off on McIntyre yet again.
“So I stepped back, moved the security guard between us, raised the title, and just went, ‘Ah ha ha ha ha ha!’ and ran off,” he chuckled saying that the venue wanted the contest winner to be banned from future events but McIntyre suggested they don’t as he appreciates passionate fans.
