Ted DiBiase has reflected on working with one of wrestling’s most memorable managers, sharing both admiration and a warning he often passed along to others.
Speaking on Everybody’s Got a Pod while discussing his WrestleMania VII programme, Ted DiBiase spoke highly of the late ‘Sensational’ Sherri Martel, praising both her personality and her presence in the ring.
“Sherri was delightful. I thought she played her part as that manager very well. Thought she did a hell of a job,” DiBiase said. “Here’s the other thing that I told a lot of new guys that would come into the business. They’d ask, ‘What about Sherri Martel?’ I said, ‘You just don’t want to get on the wrong side. She’s tough as nails. And I think there’s a few guys in this business who she could just beat the sh*t out of.’”
DiBiase added that Sherri was among the most likeable people he worked with during his career.
“Likable? Oh my gosh, yeah, she was likable,” he said.
During the discussion, co-host Marcus D’Angelo described Sherri as “an irreplaceable talent,” noting that he had rarely heard anything but praise for her work and reputation. DiBiase also recalled travelling overseas with Sherri during their time together on the road, including a trip that D’Angelo linked to a well-known photo of the pair walking through Dublin.
“She managed me for a while. I think she was my manager, and we were overseas somewhere, I can’t remember,” DiBiase said, before agreeing it may have been Ireland.
He acknowledged that Sherri’s enthusiasm occasionally led to her becoming heavily involved in his matches, something he sometimes had to rein in, but stressed that her ability justified it.
“The flip side of that is she had the talent to do it,” he said.
Ted DiBiase Said Vince McMahon Never Told Him Why He Paired Him With Sensational Sherri
When asked why Vince McMahon paired them together despite Ted DiBiase already being one of the company’s strongest talkers, DiBiase admitted he never received an explanation.
“I have no idea,” he said. “I know I didn’t need her to talk for me.”
