Swerve Strickland has joined the growing list of AEW stars publicly supporting The New Day following the duo’s departure from WWE.
Speaking on TMZ’s Inside The Ring, Swerve Strickland was asked whether he hopes to eventually work with Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods in AEW.
“Of course. Absolutely,” Strickland said. “I also just want them to do what’s best for them. If they want to take a five-year hiatus, they’ve earned it. They’ve more than earned it.”
Strickland went on to praise Kingston and Woods for understanding their own value within the wrestling industry and said he hopes other wrestlers learn from the situation.
“They know their value,” he continued. “They understand who they are. They understand what they bring, what they brought and their legacy they leave behind.”
Kingston and Woods officially parted ways with WWE on May 2 after reportedly declining proposed pay cuts tied to contracts they had signed only a year earlier.
Swerve Strickland & Other AEW Stars Have Expressed Their Interest In Working With The New Day In AEW
Since news of their departures broke, several AEW names, including Swerve Strickland, have publicly expressed a positive reaction to the possibility of the pair eventually joining the company. The Young Bucks, FTR, MJF, and Cash Wheeler have all commented on the situation in recent days.
AEW is widely viewed as the most likely landing spot for Kingston and Woods once their reported 90-day non-compete clauses expire.
