Sting has offered his support to John Cena ahead of Cena’s retirement match this weekend.
Speaking to Going Ringside, the WWE Hall of Famer wished Cena well as he prepares to face Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Sting praised Cena’s career and said he will be cheering him on.
“Kudos to John. He is one of the greatest of all time. I love to see it. I am rooting for him. I am hoping it turns out to be phenomenal. I am sure that it will. I am always rooting for those older guys.”
Sting and Cena shared the ring during Sting’s brief WWE run. On the September 15, 2015, edition of WWE Raw, they teamed together to defeat Seth Rollins and Big Show. Days later, at Night of Champions, the former WCW and TNA Champion suffered a neck injury in a match with Rollins, which sidelined him until resurfacing in AEW years later.
He wrestled his own retirement match at AEW Revolution 2024, teaming with Darby Allin to defeat The Young Bucks.
Will Sting Return To WWE?
Sting will not likely return to WWE any time soon, as he is still signed to AEW despite being retired from active in-ring competition. He has been signed with AEW since 2020 after departing WWE that same year.
He has been involved in matches since his retirement. Most recently, he helped Darby Allin on October 18 at WrestleDream fend off Claudio Castagnoli and Pac during Allin’s I Quit Match against Jon Moxley.
