WWE and TNA Hall of Famer Sting has named his all-time greatest rival in wrestling.
Sting has named Ric Flair as the greatest rival of his career, crediting “The Nature Boy” with helping establish him as a main event star. Speaking with Going Ringside, the WCW icon reflected on his long career and said his rivalry with Flair stood above all others, even ahead of his later battles during the Monday Nitro era. He noted that his earliest World Title matches against Flair were pivotal in defining his career.
“Oh, it’s got to be Ric Flair, of course,” he said. “He put me on the map. July of 1990, World Title for the first time, and March of 1988, my very first World Title match. That put me on the map.”
Sting and Flair’s rivalry spanned multiple eras and promotions, but their WCW clashes in the late 1980s and early 1990s remain among the most celebrated in wrestling history.
How Long Did Sting Wrestle For?
Sting wrestled professionally for nearly four decades, with an in-ring career spanning from 1985 to 2024. After debuting in the mid-1980s, he became one of WCW’s defining stars before later competing in TNA, WWE, and AEW.
He officially retired following his final match at AEW Revolution 2024, bringing an end to one of the longest and most consistent main-event careers in wrestling history.
