Steven Borden has opened up about the frightening concussion he suffered at AEW All Out 2026, revealing that he was briefly knocked unconscious during his tag team match at the September 26 pay-per-view.
Steven Borden, the son of WWE Hall of Famer Sting, sustained the injury while teaming with Darby Allin against Kevin Knight and Kyle Fletcher. The incident occurred during a double coast-to-coast manoeuvre when Borden struck his head and couldn’t continue competing. The referee stopped the match and awarded the victory to Knight and Fletcher.
Speaking to First Coast News in Jacksonville ahead of AEW Dynamite: Blood & Guts, Borden confirmed that he had suffered a concussion and discussed the frustration of being sidelined despite feeling physically healthy.
“It feels great to be back,” Borden said. “So I got concussed, I was knocked out for a little bit. It’s weird though because with injuries, like when you’re sidelined, normally you can feel it, like you tore something in your knee or whatever.”
Borden explained that his recovery was particularly frustrating because he did not experience the physical limitations typically associated with other wrestling injuries.
“And so you know as much as you want to get back in the action, you can’t. But for me, I felt fine. So it’s just this weird thing of, like, I wanted to be back out there, but I couldn’t. And now that I’m back, it feels pretty dang good.”
Darby Allin Reveals How Long Steven Borden Was Unconscious
Darby Allin, who accompanied Steven Borden for the interview, interrupted his tag team partner’s description of being knocked unconscious for “a little bit” to offer a different account.
“A little bit? You were snoring for six minutes straight,” Allin said. “It wasn’t a little bit. It was a lot of bit.”
Although Allin delivered the remark with humour, his comments highlighted how serious the injury was, bringing their All Out match to an abrupt conclusion. Borden’s concussion forced him to spend time away from in-ring competition while awaiting medical clearance, despite feeling ready to return.
The injury also interrupted his involvement alongside Allin, with the two having competed together against Knight and Fletcher at the September pay-per-view. Now cleared to return, Borden is preparing to compete in one of AEW’s most demanding match types.
He is scheduled to join Allin, Adam Copeland, The Young Bucks and Will Ospreay in the men’s Blood & Guts match on the November 4 edition of AEW Dynamite. Their opponents will be the Don Callis Family team of Jake Doyle, Kazuchika Okada, Kevin Knight, Kyle Fletcher, Mark Davis and Wardlow.
The match marks Steven Borden’s return to action following the concussion, giving him another chance to face Knight and Fletcher after their previous encounter ended prematurely.
