“Stone Cold” Steve Austin has revealed which moment he regards as the most unforgettable of his illustrious WWE career.
Speaking in a recent interview with DJD Classics, the WWE Hall of Famer pointed to his submission match with Bret Hart at WrestleMania 13, a no-disqualification bout that ended with Austin bleeding and passing out from a Sharpshooter as the pivotal highlight.
“That match at WrestleMania 13, I knew we had those people from Jump Street. I dived on him, started whipping his a**, and then we go into a barricade. I start bleeding like a stuck pig. Finally, after a couple of attempts, he turns me over in that sharpshooter, and I’m laying there, and I’m in a push up position, and I am trying to escape.”
Austin said the crowd’s reaction in Chicago’s Rosemont Horizon, amplified by the building’s wooden ceiling, helped elevate the moment to something beyond the ring.
“We loved working Chicago Rosemont Horizon, because first of all, the fans are terrific. And the acoustics in that building, that’s a wooden ceiling. So when they yell, it’s kind of like hitting the gas pedal, you get an immediate response. ”
What Moment In The Steve Austin Vs. Bret Hart WrestleMania 13 Match Was Not Planned?
Steve Austin explained that the finish, where he collapsed in his own pool of blood, wasn’t fully planned and that it captured the authentic heat and emotion between him and Hart.
“The pool of blood was not planned, until later by two individuals. There was a no color policy in effect, and I was laying there bleeding like a stuck pig.”
Austin finished by confirming that the end of the match, when he and Hart had successfully completed their double turn, was the best moment of his career.
