New WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion Sol Ruca already has an opponent in mind for her first title defence.
Speaking with TMZ’s Inside The Ring, Sol Ruca named Lyra Valkyria as a potential challenger and welcomed the opportunity to face the woman who became the inaugural Women’s Intercontinental Champion.
“I am 100% down. I am a fighting champion,” Ruca said. “I would absolutely love to defend the title against Lyra. She’s the first person to ever hold this title. It would be a great matchup, and it’ll definitely test myself against another former IC champion.”
A showdown between the two stars may not be far away. Ruca and Valkyria are already set to meet in the opening round of the Queen of the Ring tournament, giving both women an opportunity to build momentum heading into the summer.
Sol Ruca Won The Women’s Intercontinental Championship At Clash In Italy
Sol Ruca captured the Women’s Intercontinental Championship at Clash in Italy on May 31, defeating Becky Lynch to end Lynch’s third reign with the title. The victory marked one of the biggest achievements of Ruca’s WWE career since arriving on the main roster.
Now, the champion is focused on building a memorable reign and establishing herself as a fighting titleholder. Ruca said she hopes to defend the championship as often as possible and would even like to provide opportunities to talent from NXT.
“If it was up to me, I would absolutely love to bring some NXT girls to try and defend this title and put them up on the main roster and see what they’ve got,” she said. “I want to do right by this title, and I want to make myself and all my followers proud.”
The 25-year-old also outlined her ambitions for the title reign, setting a lofty goal for herself as champion.
“I want them to think that I’ve had the best Intercontinental Championship run of all time,” Ruca said. “That’s the goal.”
With a major first defence already on her wish list and plans to showcase talent from across WWE, Ruca appears determined to make her reign stand out from those that came before it.
