IYO Sky spoke about Rhea Ripley’s injury and what she thinks might have contributed to it.
Speaking to Ringer Wrestling, Sky detailed Ripley’s complicated life and schedule as a WWE main event talent.
“I’m not a text person. I’m not a phone call person so we haven’t talked too much but I totally understand what she’s doing and why she needed to take time for now. I really know she was being too busy, way busier than me. She was all over the world. She had main events, she had championship matches and she had media interviews,” she said.
Sky is confident Ripley will return better than ever.
“I was thinking about when we were Rhiyo. She’d been to Crown Jewel in Australia first and she was crazy busy. I was always watching her. Sometimes I think about her, ‘Oh my gosh, she’s overworking.’ So, as of now, she’s injured. That makes me sad but definitely she needs time but also, I know her personality. She will come back when she becomes much stronger than before,” she said.
Ripley is currently recovering from what she termed as a “slight meniscus tear” in a “really weird spot” which needed surgery to repair. Such injuries can take 4–7 months to recover from.
Ripley was quietly stripped of the WWE Women’s Championship after defending it for 104 days. Chelsea Green is now recognized as the WWE Women’s Champion.
