WWE superstar Shinsuke Nakamura is hinting at a final showdown with his NJPW rival, Hiroshi Tanahashi.
In an interview with Tokyo Sports, Nakamura was asked about using Tanahashi’s catch phrase at a recent WWE house show in Japan.
“I mean I love Japan, right? There’s no way Nakamura Shinsuke would say something so rude. Well, I’m trying to do everything I can but things can happen at any moment,” he said.
Tanahashi, “The Ace”, is on a retirement tour this year climaxing with his final match at the Tokyo Dome at Wrestle Kingdom on January 4th of next year. Tanahashi’s final opponent hasn’t been revealed yet.
For now, though, Nakamura said he wants to win a world championship in WWE before his contract runs out.
“That’s what I’m doing because I believe in it. That is the World Heavyweight Championship. I hope I can achieve that. I think that’s the one thing that Japanese people, especially men, have yet to break through on this American stage. I don’t know if it’s proof, but I can’t help but wonder what would happen if I couldn’t do it. I hope I can leave behind some kind of path, some kind of hope, for the next generation of Japanese and Asian people,” he said.
The only match that has been signed for Wrestle Kingdom so far is Aaron Wolf vs. Evil. Aaron Wolf.
