Sheamus has insisted that he is not retired from professional wrestling despite leaving WWE last month, describing his current absence from the ring as an extended holiday.
The former WWE Champion officially became a free agent on October 1, 2026, after his contract expired. Since his departure, speculation has surrounded his next move, with both AEW and TNA Wrestling reportedly expressing interest in the Irish star.
However, Sheamus has made it clear he does not consider his wrestling career over. Speaking to Telemundo Deportes during a public appearance in Chicago on Saturday, October 31, Sheamus was introduced as an “ex-luchador”, meaning former wrestler. The description prompted an immediate response from the Irish star, who clarified that he was simply enjoying some time away from wrestling.
“Did you say ex-luchador? I’m just taking time off. I’m just chilling, I’m just relaxing. I’m on vacation. A long vacation.”
The interview took place at Bundesliga Haus in Chicago, where Sheamus attended a watch party for the Borussia Dortmund versus Bayern Munich football match. Although he did not reveal when or where he intends to wrestle again, his comments suggest that he has not ruled out an eventual return to the ring.
Sheamus Continues To Attract Interest Following WWE Exit
Sheamus’ future has drawn considerable speculation since he entered free agency, with several promotions reportedly interested in securing his services. According to a recent report from Fightful Select, AEW currently has no significant urgency to bring the former WWE star into the company.
Nevertheless, the report indicated that AEW wrestlers Claudio Castagnoli and Adam Copeland have both expressed interest in seeing the three-time WWE Champion join the promotion. He previously worked alongside Castagnoli in WWE as part of The Bar, while Copeland is another familiar face from his time there.
TNA Wrestling has also reportedly explored bringing Sheamus into the promotion. Following October’s Bound For Glory event, it emerged that TNA had contacted Sheamus about potentially answering Moose’s open challenge at the show.
The appearance ultimately did not materialise, with Max Caster filling the role instead. Sheamus previously discussed his WWE situation during a July interview with Adam’s Apple, revealing that certain circumstances had arisen regarding his future with the company.
Although he declined to elaborate, he said he had no regrets about his WWE career.
