Shawn Michaels has named a WWE pay-per-view he says is more fun to compete in than WrestleMania, despite the latter’s status as WWE’s biggest show.
Speaking in an interview on the Club 520 Podcast, Shawn Michaels said the Royal Rumble offers a different kind of in-ring experience, with less individual pressure compared to WrestleMania.
“From a pure fun standpoint, the Rumble is more fun because it’s not as pressure and 100% focused on you,” Michaels said. “It’s more about the entire match and just the idea. I’m very happy. I feel like the Rumble has gotten bigger than it was in our day. I think it’s become so much more special over time. People have really began to appreciate the Rumble and everything that goes on with it.”
Michaels explained that WrestleMania brings a unique level of expectation, with performers carrying the full weight of delivering on the biggest stage.
“When it’s 100% on you like it is at WrestleMania, that’s when you have the stress, the anxiety, the pressure of making sure you go out there and deliver.” he added.
Known as “Mr WrestleMania,” Michaels admitted that the responsibility tied to that reputation sometimes took away from the enjoyment of the event, even though he believes he consistently delivered in those moments. He also pointed to the Royal Rumble’s growth over the years, noting that the match has become increasingly important and more appreciated by fans.
