Seth Rollins isn’t a fan of WWE’s latest reality TV series.
Since launching on Netflix in July, WWE Unreal has proved divisive among both fans and figures in the wrestling industry. The show lived up to its promise of giving unprecedented access to the inner workings of WWE. The series shows fans everything from the writer’s room to the production of matches, and interactions between stars backstage, with a level of access never seen before.
While some have loved Unreal and the new insights it’s provided, others think it’s lifting the curtain too far for a business that has always treaded a thin line between theatre and reality.
Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins recently offered their perspectives during an appearance on Something’s Burning. The couple has differing stances on the show, with Lynch saying she would have loved it when she was a fan.
“We’ve talked about this. When we were fans, we would have loved to have seen it. We would have loved to have seen it.”
Rollins agreed, but then admitted he hates it, mainly because it removed the “gray area” that can spark curiosity.
“Yeah, but I hate it. I do hate it. I don’t hate all of it. There’s some parts of it that I think are fascinating and interesting. But there’s some things that, in our business, everybody knows what it is, everybody knows that it’s predetermined and planned, but the gray area, that one little question that like, ‘Maybe they really don’t like each other. Maybe there’s something there. What could happen?’”
Continuing, Rollins said that the removal of that seed of doubt makes it “a bit tricky” to maintain the magic of pro wrestling.
“That unpredictability that it creates, that’s the magic, that’s where the magic happens in our business, is that little seed of doubt. And when you start to just chip away at that, it becomes a bit tricky.”
Seth Rollins Provides Injury Rehab Update
During the same show, Seth Rollins gave an update on his recent injury. The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion has been out of action since injuring his shoulder at Crown Jewel in October.
The Visionary said he is hoping to be back in ring shape by WrestleMania season, but admitted his return could take up to six months.
