Sami Zayn is relieved that Oba Femi is otherwise engaged with Brock Lesnar at WWE SummerSlam.
At Night of Champions, Sami Zayn finally achieved his dream of becoming the Undisputed WWE Champion when he pinned Cody Rhodes in a Triple Threat match that also featured Gunther.
Earlier in the night, Oba Femi won the King of the Ring tournament, which would normally mean he would choose between challenging either Zayn for the Undisputed WWE Title, or Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship. However, on Raw, Femi chose a third option and instead challenged Brock Lesnar to face him at the Biggest Party of the Summer. Lesnar accepted on the condition that they would meet inside Hell in a Cell, something The Ruler was happy to accept.
With Femi having taken himself out of the running, it is now unclear who Zayn will defend his newly-won championship against at SummerSlam, but the star says he is happy to accept all comers.
Sami Zayn Won’t Back Down From Any Challengers
Speaking on the Raw Recap, Zayn said that while he wasn’t looking past Oba Femi, he was glad to have a moment to wrap his head around finally reaching the pinnacle of WWE.
“You know, I’ll be honest — this is not to say I’m looking past Oba whatsoever, trust me. But, my head was more wrapped up in just like, ‘Hey, can I get a minute? Can I just get a second here? 10-plus years chasing this, can I have just one moment?'”
Zayn said he had already been in the ring with a lot of monsters, so he was prepared to face anyone who challenged him. Despite that, he also admitted to being a “little relieved” that he won’t be facing Femi just yet.
“But no, of course, you have to rise to the occasion. I don’t care who the challenger is. I don’t care if it’s Brock, I don’t care if it’s Roman, I don’t care if it’s Oba. I’ve been in the ring with monsters. I’m not saying it would be a cakewalk, but, I’m not gonna back down either. I don’t mean to sound bravado here. I’m not trying to make myself seem more courageous than I am. He is very imposing; there is no doubt but I don’t care who it is. That’s the thing about being WWE Champion. You kinda have to, you got to.
“Was I a little relieved? Maybe, yeah, sure. Sure. But, whoever, whoever. That’s gotta be part of it. That’s part of the game.”
While Sami Zayn doesn’t know who he will face at SummerSlam, part of the card has now been decided as Roman Reigns accepted a challenge from Seth Rollins, while Liv Morgan will put the Women’s World Title on the line against Queen of the Ring tournament winner IYO SKY.
