Royce Keys was always planned for the WWE main roster, according to a new report.
Fightful Select reports that WWE was “adamant” from an early stage in negotiations that Royce Keys, formerly known as Powerhouse Hobbs in AEW, would bypass NXT and debut directly on Raw or SmackDown. The decision was made early in discussions between both sides.
While most incoming talent typically spend time in NXT regardless of experience level, WWE has made exceptions in recent years. Names such as Jade Cargill, Penta and Dominik Mysterio were all introduced on the main roster without a developmental run.
Keys arrives in WWE following a near six-year run with AEW, where he held the Trios Championship as part of The Opps. He made his in-ring debut at the Royal Rumble, but has yet to appear on televised Raw or SmackDown programming.
Royce Keys’ WWE Appearances Since 2026 Royal Rumble
In the weeks since, Royce Keys has competed in a series of dark matches against opponents including Chris Sabin, Alex Shelley, Rey Fenix and Nathan Frazer.
He also appeared on Stephanie McMahon’s “What’s Your Story?” podcast following his debut.
There is currently no confirmation on whether Keys will be involved at WrestleMania 42. However, BodySlam+ reports that WWE has discussed a potential tag team appearance involving Keys and country music star Jelly Roll.
