Ronda Rousey’s AEW appearance may have sparked speculation, but new details suggest it was never intended to be anything more than a one-off.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez reported that Ronda Rousey’s appearance at AEW Revolution was a single-night deal, with no further appearances currently planned.
“I can confirm that Ronda Rousey is done with AEW,” Alvarez said. “It was a one and done.”
According to Alvarez, the timing of the appearance was largely opportunistic. With Revolution taking place in Los Angeles, where Rousey resides, the appearance provided a convenient platform to promote her upcoming fight against Gina Carano on May 16.
“She showed up… thought it would be an easy way to plug the upcoming fight,” Alvarez said. “They immediately plugged the fight, and that’s it.”
The report may come as a surprise given how the segment played out on screen. Rousey confronted Toni Storm before Storm was attacked by Marina Shafir, with Rousey aligning herself with the Death Riders. The angle appeared to set up a potential storyline, but no follow-up has materialised.
“When I saw what they did, I thought they had to be setting up some match,” Alvarez said.
He added that even if Rousey was unable to wrestle due to her MMA commitments, there were still options available to continue her involvement in a non-wrestling role.
“Could she be in Marina’s corner? Could she do something? Apparently, nope.”
The Door Is Still Open For Ronda Rousey To Return To AEW
While Alvarez noted that the door is not closed to a future return, he stressed that there are currently no creative plans for Ronda Rousey in AEW.
“It’s not like she can’t come back, but there are no plans for her to be back,” he said.
Rousey later confirmed on her own YouTube channel that part of her motivation for appearing at Revolution was tied to ongoing frustrations following the collapse of her UFC return talks, describing it as a response to TKO Group, the parent company of WWE and UFC.
