Ronda Rousey has explained how action films prepared her for pro wrestling.
Ronda Rousey has looked back on her journey from Olympic judoka to pro wrestler. The Baddest Woman On The Planet says every part of her career was an evolution from the last, until she brought everything together in the pro wrestling ring.
In an interview with Whistle, she explained that moving from judo to MMA meant she had to learn to become more entertaining, and that led to moving into the movie business. In her acting roles, Rousey was able to learn fight choreography, and she took that experience to wrestling, which she says is fight choreography in its “purest form.”
“I feel like MMA was a good segue because being purely an athlete was doing judo (at the) Olympics. You know, being an athlete that also has to entertain was MMA and having to learn how to be on camera and stuff like that, which I used to be petrified of public speaking.
“Then that was kind of like a good segue, and then I started acting more in like action films and stuff like that, or I could like do fight choreography and things like that, and that kind of like segued me into pro wrestling, which I feel like is the purest form of fight choreography.”
Ronda Rousey Made Her Last Pro Wrestling Appearance In AEW
While she is more closely associated with WWE, Ronda Rousey made her most recent pro wrestling appearance at AEW Revolution. On the show, she came to support her real-life friend Marina Shafir, but took things a step further when she called out Toni Storm. While the pair came face-to-face in the ring, Shafir attacked Storm before they could fight. It has since been reported that Rousey’s appearance was a one-off, and she is not expected back in the promotion.
