A WWE Hall of Famer has alleged that WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns has major creative control within the company.
Eric Bischoff has claimed that Roman Reigns has significant influence over his WWE creative direction, comparing the World Heavyweight Champion’s position to other major stars who have held considerable backstage power.
Speaking on his 83 Weeks podcast, Bischoff first praised Reigns’ presence, arguing that nobody currently working in WWE or AEW possesses the same natural star quality.
Bischoff believes Reigns immediately stands out, whether someone watching is familiar with his career or WWE storylines.
“When you look at Roman Reigns from across an arena, you’re looking at a star. Whether you could be dropped out of a freaking spaceship, find yourself planted firmly inside of an arena or a stadium, and when Roman Reigns walks through that curtain, you don’t need to know his backstory… you know you’re looking at a star.”
Reigns has been positioned among WWE’s biggest stars for more than a decade and currently holds the World Heavyweight Championship.
Bischoff also addressed creative control in professional wrestling, and the influence performers at the highest level can have over their presentation and storylines.
Eric Bischoff Compares Roman Reigns’ Creative Control To Hulk Hogan’s In WCW
The former WCW President recalled receiving criticism for giving Hulk Hogan creative control during their time together in WCW. However, Eric Bischoff argued that similar influence is not unique to Hogan and claimed major stars such as Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar have also possessed significant control over their creative direction.
“I’m going to jump in here and point one thing out. Again, and not so much anymore, but I used to be criticized often for allowing Hulk Hogan to have creative control. If any of you dirt sheet morons out there think that Brock Lesnar did not have creative control, that Roman doesn’t, you are more clueless than even I can imagine.”
Bischoff did not provide specific examples of Reigns exercising creative control or detail the extent of his contractual authority. His comments instead reflected his belief that performers who reach Reigns’ level of stardom naturally gain substantial influence over how they are booked.
Reigns has remained one of WWE’s central figures throughout recent years, with his storylines consistently occupying prominent positions on company programming.
For Bischoff, that status means Reigns has considerably more input into his WWE creative direction than some fans may realise.
