Roman Reigns has named The Rock and John Cena as two of his mentors as he looks toward a potential acting career after his full-time WWE run ends.
Roman Reigns has increasingly ventured into Hollywood in recent years and acknowledges he’s closer to the end of his wrestling career than the beginning. Speaking with Men’s Health, the World Heavyweight Champion said he’s following the path set by two of WWE’s biggest crossover stars.
“These two are special humans,” Reigns said. “You’re talking about, even in their leaned out stages, they’re still superhero guys.”
Reigns described both Cena and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as mentors whose careers have influenced his own ambitions outside professional wrestling.
“These are my mentors. These are the guys that I watched come before me,” Reigns said. “So these were guys who had a great imprint and left a great impression on me.”
Roman Reigns Hopes To Follow The Rock And John Cena Into Hollywood
Both John Cena and Dwayne Johnson successfully transitioned from WWE to major Hollywood careers, giving Roman Reigns a blueprint for his own future.
“They were also great influences to look at,” Reigns said. “If you’re going to steal from somebody, from their playbook, John Cena and Dwayne Johnson are two of the very best you can do it from.”
Reigns has already accumulated several acting credits alongside his WWE career. He appeared alongside Johnson in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw and has since landed roles in The Wrong Missy, The Pickup and Zootopia 2. His next major role will see him portray Akuma in the live-action adaptation of Street Fighter, which is scheduled for release later this month.
Johnson stepped away from full-time professional wrestling in 2002 as his acting career took off, while Cena began focusing more heavily on Hollywood in 2017 before officially retiring from in-ring competition in December 2025. Reigns hopes to make a similar transition when the time comes to move beyond his full-time wrestling career.
“I hope that I can get to a place like they did in my career where that’s going to be the next step for me,” Reigns said.
