WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair has claimed that WWE attempted to take his trademarked name while he was on life support in 2017.
Speaking in an interview on Games with Names, Ric Flair spoke about his serious health scare back in 2017, where he was hospitalised and on life support for two weeks, with many thinking that the Nature Boy was going to pass away. Flair said that during his time in the hospital, WWE attempted to sign over the rights to the Ric Flair name, which is his intellectual property.
Flair said that the only two people who currently own their names in the history of WWE are himself and The Rock. He also said that Hulk Hogan did have ownership over his name, but lost the rights to it during a conflict with his family over money. Flair also said that his own agent stole $150,000 from him while he was in the hospital.
What Happened To Ric Flair In 2017?
Ric Flair’s health took a very serious decline in August 2017 after complications arose following surgery he had to remove an obstructive piece of his bowel. Soon after the surgery, Flair suffered a ruptured intestine, kidney failure, sepsis, respiratory failure, and pneumonia. The doctors treating Flair at the time did not expect him to survive this ordeal, but he recovered, and on September 21, 2017, 38 days after first going into the hospital, Flair was discharged from rehabilitation and returned home.
In recent news, Ric Flair spoke about why he declined the opportunity to form a wrestling union in the 1980s.
