Ric Flair discussed which current wrestlers he would choose for a modern version of The Four Horsemen, a group he says should reflect today’s top-tier performers.
Speaking in a 2018 interview on Baltimore’s 98 Rock Morning Show with Justin, Scott, and Spiegel, Ric Flair named Dolph Ziggler first, praising his charisma and his consistent dedication to the craft. He then picked Seth Rollins, noting his mix of athletic ability and showmanship that fits what he believes a Horseman should represent.
“The first guy I would take is Dolph Ziggler. The second guy would be Seth Rollins.”
For his third choice, Flair selected Roman Reigns, calling him a trooper and someone who could carry the aura of the group with ease.
“The third guy would be, let me think, for Horsemen that requires a lot. You have to be good at what you do, you have to be able to enjoy life. Let me think. God I haven’t had too much fun with him, but I’m sure he’d be great, Roman Reigns. Roman is a trooper,”
His final pick was Randy Orton, saying that even though Orton now lives a more settled lifestyle, he remains one of the best wrestlers in the business.
“Oh God, he would run from me but Randy Orton for sure, but he is so married now and so laid back and having a good time. Make no mistake, Randy Orton right now is still the best wrestler in wrestling.”
Flair said these four combine skill, presence and longevity, qualities he believes are essential for anyone trusted with the legacy of the Horsemen.
When Did Ric Flair Retire?
Ric Flair’s full-time in-ring career effectively ended in 2008, after his emotional retirement match against Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 24. That bout was promoted as his farewell, and WWE honoured it as the official end of his competitive run with the company.
Flair did return to wrestle in other promotions afterwards, including a series of matches in TNA from 2010 to 2011 and a final independently promoted match in July 2022, but his recognised WWE retirement remains the 2008 WrestleMania performance.
